Lissi was a beautiful, strong, and courageous young woman whose heart was dedicated to saving others. Tragically, she lost her battle with depression.

At just 9 years old, she saved her first life, pulling a drowning little girl from the water when no one else noticed. Years later, at 16, against her mother’s wishes, Lissi dove into the treacherous Kern River to rescue a man from drowning. After performing CPR, the man regained consciousness, believing he had been saved by an angel.

Lissi’s selfless bravery didn’t stop there. From the age of 16 to 24, she worked as a lifeguard while also pursuing her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse, despite the challenges of a learning disability. Her life’s purpose was clear: to save and uplift others.

But even heroes need help. Despite her strength and courage, Lissi struggled with depression—a silent battle that many face alone. Her passing serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking support in times of need. It’s okay to ask for help, to lean on others, and to prioritize mental health. No one should have to fight that battle alone.

Though Lissi is no longer with us physically, her legacy lives on. Through "Lissi’s Bench," we aim to honor her life’s mission by providing a space where those who are struggling can find comfort, support, and hope—just as Lissi would have wanted.
